Universal Tower Defense: Traits Tier List - January

In Universal Tower Defense (UTD), Traits are the secondary "stat modifiers" that can turn a basic unit into a wave-clearing powerhouse. While summoning a strong unit like Jinoo or Berserker is the first step, rolling a high-tier Trait is what truly defines your endgame build.

Here is everything you need to know about the current Trait system, the best perks to roll for, and how to use your Rerolls effectively.

How Traits Work in UTD

Every unit you summon comes with a random Trait (or no Trait at all). Traits provide passive buffs to core stats like Damage (DMG), Attack Speed (SPA/Cooldown), and Range (RNG).

You can change a unit's Trait by using Trait Rerolls, which are primarily obtained through Codes or by completing high-level challenges and missions.

S-Tier Traits (The "God" Rolls)

If you land one of these, stop rolling immediately. These are extremely rare and provide the highest stat boosts in the game.

  • Ruler: Generally considered the best trait in the game.
    • Buffs: +200% DMG, -20% Cooldown, +30% Range.
    • Restriction: Limits the placement of that unit to only 1.
    • Best For: Your strongest Mythic or Secret DPS unit (like Jinoo).
  • Sacred: A powerful all-rounder with no placement downsides.
      • Buffs: +25% DMG, -10% Cooldown, +25% Range, and -15% Placement Cost.
      • Best For: Support units or DPS units where you need to place multiple copies.
    • Eternal: The "Endless Mode" king.
      • Buffs: -20% Cooldown, +2% Damage increase every wave (capping at +50%).
      • Best For: High-wave Story stages and Infinite/Endless modes.
    • Duelist: The Boss Killer.
      • Buffs: +25% Critical Hit Rate and +35% Damage specifically against Bosses.
      • Best For: Single-target specialist towers.

A & B Tier Traits (Great for Starters)

If you are low on Rerolls, these traits are excellent "placeholders" that still provide a massive boost over having no trait.

    • Fortunate (A-Tier): Increases Income by +20%.
      • Strategic Use: Put this on your Economy/Support units to generate cash faster.
    • Swift (B-Tier): -15% Cooldown.
      • Strategic Use: Good for units with slow attack speeds to help them keep up with fast enemies.
    • Range (B-Tier): +20% Range.
      • Strategic Use: Essential for "Buffer" units or towers with small circular AOEs.

    Trait Strategy & Tips

    1. The "Lock" Mechanic

When you have a unit with a trait you like but want to try for something better, look for Stat Locks. These allow you to "save" a specific stat or trait while rerolling others (though this is usually an endgame feature).

    2. Prioritize Your Carry

Don't spread your Rerolls thin across your whole team. Pick your best DPS unit and spend your rerolls there until you get at least an A-tier trait. A single unit with "Ruler" is often stronger than five units with average traits.

    3. Economy First

If you're struggling to afford upgrades mid-match, try to roll Fortunate on your support units. Having extra cash early on allows you to max out your DPS towers before the boss waves arrive.
